Pre and Post Surgical Rehabilitation
While surgery is designed to restore your joints or muscle tissue, research has proven that pre-surgical rehabilitation for range of motion and strength improves the outcome of your surgery. You may need additional treatment to prepare you for your surgery or recover once the procedure is complete. PRO Physical Therapy offers pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation to help you prepare and recover from your surgery.
To learn more about the benefits of pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation, call PRO Physical Therapy today and schedule an initial evaluation.
Pre & Post-Surgical Rehabilitation Services Offered
Doctors approach your procedure the same as they would an athlete. While this produces the best results, it can also cause pain and stiffness during recovery. For this reason, we offer physical and occupational therapy that can reduce pain and speed up recovery time.
Our pre-surgical rehabilitation program is designed to give you the best outcome after surgery. When you participate in pre-op therapy, you are less likely to be apprehensive about undergoing therapy after surgery when you are most vulnerable. Therapy can reduce recovery time and shorten hospitalization. In some cases, our patients discover that they do not need surgery after they complete therapy.
During treatment, you will engage in many of the same activities that you during post-surgical rehabilitation. Your program can begin as early as six weeks ahead of the surgery and involve exercises that strengthen ligaments, tendons, and muscles. We start with a slow progression to avoid aggravating the condition before your operation.
Post-surgical therapy can start anywhere from a few hours to a few days after the procedure depending on your condition and the severity of your injuries. We focus on educating you on surgical protocol, as well as treating the involved area and surrounding joints and muscles
As with pre-surgical rehabilitation, you will engage in a broad range of exercises that strengthen muscles, restore range of motion, and prevent re-injury. You will work with your therapist to establish a rehabilitation schedule within your doctor’s protocol and with your goals in mind.
Your Personalized Therapy Treatment Plan
Your treatment plan will begin with evaluation and education. You will work with your therapist to establish a rehabilitation schedule with your goals in mind. The therapist will then develop an exercise program tailored to your needs and abilities.
The plan is progressive. You will start with simple, light exercises and move into more difficult exercises.
